Boosting Your Immunity- What To Do And What Not To Do?

Immunity plays a very important role in our overall health. Whatever we do, whatever we eat, everything affects our immunity in a positive or negative way. And to ensure that we have good immunity, we need to be cautious about our daily habits. There are certain Do’s and Don'ts that you should follow for boosting your immunity.

Do's

Exercise Everyday: Develop a habit of working out for thirty minutes or more every day. This should be done at least three to five days a week. Exercising regularly keeps the body healthy by strengthening the immune system. It also boosts metabolism and keeps the muscles and bones healthy. It also boosts the metabolism. You may lack consistency initially but once you build a habit, you will enjoy working out more.

Healthy Weight: Make sure your weight falls in the right category according to your height and age. Being overweight makes it difficult for the body to fight diseases and increases the risk of diseases, especially diabetes, osteoarthritis, and other cardiac problems. If you are overweight, try reducing it by following a healthy lifestyle comprising a good workout routine and a healthy diet.

Healthy Diet: Try to include more healthy components in your diet. Try to make your plate colorful by adding all the sources of nutrients as per meal like carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Getting all the nutrients in the right proportion is important for good immunity. 

Fruits and Vegetables: Consuming fresh fruits and vegetables is vital for our immunity as they contain antioxidants that prevent us from microbes. Also, the antioxidants work to reduce free radicals that are the cause of inflammation hence increasing immunity.

Good Sleep: Getting good sleep is one of the essentials of having good immunity. Giving enough rest to the body is important because it gives cells time to repair after it goes through wear and tear the entire day. Every adult needs at least seven hours of sleep per night to have a healthy body.

Don'ts

No Smoking and Drinking: Try to avoid smoking and drinking as they have extremely negative effects on the body. These habits increase the chances of developing cancer, cardiac problems, and other life-threatening diseases. Not only this, they lower the body's natural capability to fight even simple infections.

Avoid Junk and High Sugar: One of the best ways to keep your immunity in a healthy state is to limit the intake of junk food and cut down on processed sugar as and when you can. These both are harmful to the body and add empty calories in many cases. Being low in nutrient value and high in calorie amount, they aren't even filling enough. Moreover, repeated consumption only tends to increase weight and cravings as well. Cutting down sugar also helps to reduce inflammation which further prevents chronic diseases.

Limit Caffeine: Limit the consumption of caffeine throughout the day. Also, make sure you don't consume caffeine after 6 pm as it affects the sleep cycle. Also, overconsumption of caffeine suppresses the appetite and hampers the metabolism.

Avoid Stress: Try to minimize stress by practicing healthy habits like yoga, meditation, reading a book, and taking yourself out. Stress acts as a slow poison. Stress releases a hormone called cortisol that further reduces endorphins and if not controlled, it can lead to chronic stress that can even lead to depression. Chronic stress lowers the body's immunity and hampered mental health also starts showing effects on physical health.

Reducing Screen Time: Reducing Screen time, especially before bed is extremely beneficial for the body since it results in a sound sleep and hence a great start to the next day. As already mentioned above, good sleep is one of the pillars of strong immunity. The blue rays emitted from screens are responsible for disturbing the sleep cycle.

These do's and don'ts are simple habits that some people already follow while many need to follow in their daily life. Healthy habits might take time to build but once you get a hang of them, you will love the healthy lifestyle and the changes that come as a result of it.
